Numeracy and Literacy are referred to as the “two pillars” or foundations of our BC K-12 Curriculum Framework. What is numeracy?
The following is the definition of numeracy from the BC curriculum website (glossary):
“Numeracy is the willingness and ability to interpret and apply mathematical understanding to solve problems in complex situations, and the perseverance to analyze and communicate these solutions in ways that are relevant to the given context.”

Numeracy Across All Areas of Learning (K-7 focus)
The following are compiled collections of numeracy experiences and tasks that were included in the weekly K-7 mathematics plans for SD38 Transitional Learning during the 2020-2021 school year.
BC Numeracy Learning Progressions
The BC Ministry of Education and Child Care has provided K-12 Learning Pathways focusing on Literacy and Numeracy. There are K-12 Numeracy Learning Progressions that provide proficiency descriptors for each of the five numeracy processes across the grades.
